Privacy notice
Last updated: 9 October 2026
This notice explains what personal information the Kow Abaka Essuman campaign collects when you join the movement or register your interest in GreenRide, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. We handle your information in line with Ghana's Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843).
Who we are
The data controller is the Kow Abaka Essuman Campaign, supporting Kow Abaka Essuman's bid to become the New Patriotic Party's Parliamentary Candidate for the Ablekuma West Constituency, Greater Accra, Ghana.
You can reach us at info@voteforkow.com.
What we collect
When you fill in the "Join the movement" form, we collect:
- Your full name — so we can address you properly.
- Your mobile number — the main way we stay in touch, by call, SMS or WhatsApp.
- Your area (optional) — so we can tell you about activity near you.
- Your email address (optional) — for campaign updates, if you give it.
- How you found us — if you arrive through a link we shared, such as a Facebook post or an SMS, we record that link's campaign tag and the website that sent you, so we can see which outreach is working. This tells us about the link, not about you, and we do not use it to track you across other websites.
If you message us on WhatsApp instead, we receive your WhatsApp number and whatever you choose to write. Our website also records ordinary technical information such as your approximate location and browser type through our hosting provider's standard logs.
We do not ask for and do not want your voter ID number, Ghana Card number, bank details, or any information about your health.
GreenRide registration
GreenRide Ablekuma West is an empowerment programme offering electric motorbikes on a ride-to-own basis. When you register your interest on our GreenRide page, we collect more than the "Join the movement" form does, because the programme has eligibility rules that the campaign and the finance provider need to check:
- Your full name, date of birth and sex — the programme is open to people aged 21 to 59, and the campaign tracks how many women take part.
- Your phone and WhatsApp numbers — to contact you about readiness sessions and next steps.
- Your electoral area, polling station and residential area or landmark — to invite you to the session nearest you and to spread the programme across all ten electoral areas.
- Readiness answers — whether you have a Ghana Card, a motorbike riding licence, a mobile money account in your own name, a safe place to park overnight, two guarantors, whether you already ride for a ride-hailing platform, and whether you completed the Licence to Earn programme. We ask whether you have these things; we do not ask for your Ghana Card number, licence number, or your guarantors' details.
- How you heard about GreenRide — so we know which outreach is working.
- Whether you hold office in the New Patriotic Party, and at what level — this is information about your political opinions, which Act 843 treats as sensitive. We collect it only with your explicit consent, given by ticking the box on the form. Your answer does not affect your registration: GreenRide is open to all residents of Ablekuma West. We use it only so the programme can show that it is reaching the wider community and not just party members.
Registering is an expression of interest, not an application, and does not guarantee a motorbike. We use what you tell us to contact you, to invite you to a readiness session in your electoral area, and to give an indicative first sort of registrations. Vehicles, finance and the final decision are provided by MOTIP, the programme's finance partner, under its own written agreement with you. If you are shortlisted, we will pass your name, contact details and readiness answers to MOTIP so it can carry out its own assessment; MOTIP will then handle your information under its own privacy terms. The campaign does not lend money, collect payments, or make the final decision.
Each registration is given a reference number. Keep it: it is the quickest way for us to find your record if you want to ask about, correct or delete it.
Why we collect it, and your consent
We rely on your consent, which you give by submitting a form or messaging us. We use your information only to:
- contact you about the campaign, its events, and how you can help;
- organise volunteers and campaign activity by area;
- run the GreenRide programme, as described above, if you registered for it;
- respond to questions and requests you send us.
We do not use your information to make automated decisions about you, and we do not profile you beyond grouping supporters by the area they tell us about.
Who we share it with
We never sell your details, and we do not share them with third parties for their own marketing. Your information is seen by campaign staff and volunteers who need it to do their work, and is held in service providers' systems that operate on our instructions — our website host, our contact-management system, and messaging providers. Some of these operate outside Ghana, so your information may be stored abroad; we choose providers that apply recognised security standards.
The one exception is GreenRide: if you are shortlisted, we share your registration with MOTIP, the programme's finance partner, so it can assess your application. We do not share GreenRide registrations with anyone else.
We may disclose information where the law requires it, or to establish or defend a legal claim.
How long we keep it
We keep your details for as long as the campaign is active, and for up to twelve months after the relevant election or primary concludes, unless you ask us to remove them sooner. After that we delete them or render them anonymous. GreenRide registrations that are not shortlisted are deleted on the same timetable; if you are shortlisted, MOTIP's own retention terms apply to the copy it holds.
Your rights
Under Act 843 you have the right to:
- Ask what we hold about you, and get a copy of it.
- Have it corrected if it is wrong or out of date.
- Have it deleted, or ask us to stop using it.
- Withdraw your consent at any time — this does not affect anything we did before you withdrew it.
- Object to us contacting you for campaign purposes.
To opt out
Reply STOP to any campaign SMS or WhatsApp message, use the unsubscribe link in any campaign email, or email info@voteforkow.com and ask to be removed. To withdraw a GreenRide registration, email us with your reference number. We will action it promptly and confirm when it is done.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please contact us first at info@voteforkow.com so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to Ghana's Data Protection Commission.
Security
This site is served over an encrypted connection, and access to supporter information is limited to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect what you give us and to act quickly if something goes wrong.
Changes to this notice
If we change how we handle your information we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will be flagged on the website.
